Our first barrica

After three months aging in oak barrels and nearly one year in the bottle, we recently marketed our first Casal de Furcos mencía barrica. It is a red wine hundred per cent made of selected mencía grapes coming from old vines and with a limited edition of five thousand bottles. It has got fruity aromas and a good structure in the mouth, ideal for enjoying combined with smoked meets, roast dishes and creamy cheese.

Adega Avelina has collaborated bringing Casal de Furcos ROCÍO mencia to this charity dinner celebrated lats saturday in El Canario restaurant, in Vigo. The dinner was cook by the chef Alberto Chicote, who is in the picture with Amancio from our cellar and Carlos Quintas, another wine maker. The benefits of the event where for Vida Digna, a association that helps poor people in Vigo´s area.

Adega Avelina took part in 2013 edition of the San Sebastián Gastronomika Salon joining the DO Valdeorras stand. We collaborated in promoting our wines with the slogan #comparte1valdeorras and attended some of the events of this important gastronomic salon. It also was a chance to know better the gastronomic passion they have in the Vasc Country and to meet chefs as the ones in the picture: Andrés Berasategui, Pedro Subijana and Hilario Arbelaitz.

This year´s harvest has started a bit late for our cellar due to the strange climate we had during the summer. It did not affect though to the quality of the grapes as the late ripening brought aromas and a good grade. It took us around two weeks to harvest our seven hectares of vineyards. picking up 150.000 kilograms of grapes as part of Valdeorras appellation of origin.

Casal de Furcos ROCÍO godello 2012 has received a bronze medal in Mezquita Prizes held by Cordoba´s Wine Club. This was the XIX edition of one of the most renowned wine contests in Spain as they received more than four hundred samples of wines coming all along the country. We take this prize as an evidence of the good evolution of our godello, nearly one year after the harvest.
